2021 Brenda Nicholson Memorial Scholarships
You may recall Double Love and some of our members donated $450 to Multiples of Illinois (formally IOMOTC) to be used for 2 scholarships in honor of our member Brenda who passed away in January 2021. The scholarships were given out at the 2021 Convention Luncheon.
The scholarship recipients of the Brenda Nicholson Memorial Scholarships were chosen at random from those that applied. The scholarship recipients were: Mackenzie Farque & Sally Lowder. Here is some details about each recipient.
The son or daughter of a MOI member received a $250 scholarship in honor of Brenda was: Mackenzie Farque. Mackenzie is attending Illinois State University in Normal, IL. She is majoring in Marketing / Business. Mackenzie’s mom, Stephanie is a member of Peoria Mothers of Twins who has been a member for 13 years and she also knew Brenda.
Sally Lowder is a Parent of multiples received a $150 Scholarship in honor of Brenda. Sally attends Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL. She applied her scholarship money to the Ethical Leadership class she took in Spring 2021. Sally lives in Mount Prospect, IL and has a 6-year-old son and 4-year-old twin boys. Sally is a member of Double Take where she is Treasurer. Sally sent a thank you email and concluded with: “Earning this scholarship brought a smile to my worn face. It has given me pride that others believe I can achieve. It is helping me finish strong.”
Other Double Love Scholarship Connections
In addition to the 2 scholarship in honor of Brenda – MOI gave out 1 additional Parent Scholarship (only 2 people applied) and then 4 additional Son or Daughter Scholarship. Two daughters of Double Love member, Kathy Schmitt received scholarships – Sarah and Grace Schmitt each received a $250 Scholarship. Here is some details about their studies.
Grace is attending Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. She applied her scholarship money to the Interior Architecture Studio class she took in Spring 2021.
Sarah graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL this past May. She applied her scholarship money toward her internship that took place in the Spring 2021 semester where she trained Police K9’s at TOPS Kennels in Grayslake, IL as a final requirement for her bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration.
